I shall not be kept home wishing I was hunting. I was really apprehensive about going out coon hunting last night since the weather was suppose to be rain with thunderstorms. I actually only had to deal with the wind, which blew hard all night. The wind was predicted to blow at 15-25 mph with gusts of 35, and it blew all night. I also saw lightning all night but didn't hear any thunder.
My first spot was a long stretch of power lines that went down to the river. I heard some coons fighting or something else when I was walking in, but couldn't get them to come in to the call. So I moved on down the power line only to find out I could only go half the way I wanted to, because the rest was flooded.
While I was walking back I noticed a set of eyes about 20 yrds from me on the ground. Since there was no huff like a deer would do I figured it was either a fox or a coyote. I set up a quick stand and started with a cottontail in distress, after only a couple minutes I saw the eyes again, but before I could get on them they were gone.
That was just a bonus encounter cause I was after coons. I made a couple more stands on the way back to the car, nothing showed. I went to another spot and called with goose egg results. Then I started for a spot I usually do pretty good at, I walked in made a quick set at another spot then on to "the hot spot".
Today it did not disappoint, I set up started the caller and had a set of eyes appear in a tree. I eased up for the shot and put some fur on the ground. After I laid him on the trail and grabbed my caller I went about a block and was getting ready to make another stand when I looked up and had 2 sets of eyes lookin at me. A couple shots later I had 2 more on the ground. I left them on the trail and was going to go in a half a block and set up for my stand, when I saw another set of eyes watching me. One shot, one kill, one more pelt on the ground. One stop 4 coons on the ground, with the temps at 50+ this is better than I thought I would do.
With coon season ending Thursday and these four coons I now have 13 coons to bring into the furrier. I have trapped 9 coon in back of my house, this paycheck will be sweet.....I have my eye on some new goose decoys.
All my outdoor adventures are put down here for you to see. My goal is to make you smile or maybe even learn something. If you don't, well it's a good read anyway. Wish me luck..... This blog is dedicated to my Auntie Nae and my Mom. They have contributed to this in their own way. Thank you for all you have done and still do. And a special Thanks to my Dad, he started me on my path by having time to take me hunting and fishing. Thank you.

So sad
I got home from work yesterday with the intentions of eating, taking a nap and going out coon hunting. Well I managed the first two but when it got down to the third it was a no go. I went out with the hopes the fog was not as bad where I was going to be hunting. I was wrong, the fog started out bad and ended bad so it was a nice 11pm car ride, only to end sad and sleeping on the couch (I didn't want to wake Sarah).
With a bunch of luck I will be going out tonight, if the rain doesn't come in the way they're predicting.

Last day for regular season geese
I went out yesterday and stayed in the field from sunup til sundown without firing a shot. It was soo cold that my Mountain dew and the water I had with, froze solid in the blind.
Today was slightly better, I woke up around 6am had some coffee and breakfast. When I finally decided to go out it was around 9am, by this time I'm usually set up and have been in the blind for 3 hours. So it was a little weird getting to the field so late and setting up in the daylight; I almost liked it. Today sure seemed just as cold as yesterday, but since I only had 7 hours afield I figured I could handle it.
It was very cloudy and windy but I managed to get a couple hours of sleep waiting for the birds to fly. Finally around 5pm I had a pair coming in from my left. I gave them a couple clucks and double clucks, they started to drop but not where I wanted them to. So I got a little pushy on my call and they started to turn and come to me. When they got to my kill hole I opened up, 2 shots later I had 2 geese on the ground. I held out and tried to get that magical third goose to round out my limit but it just wasn't in the cards. So I took the pics and packed her in for the day. It was nice to set up in the daytime but once again I was breaking it down by the light of the moon.

2 weeks of walking
As you may already know I have been coon hunting the last couple of weeks. I have also been trying to get some video of the calling; mission accomplished. So you may think because I got the shot that I am having a great year, well actually I have yet to pull a coon out of the tree. They will look out the tree but will not commit to coming out. So since I have 3 days at the end of the month, I am going to hope for warmer nights and start whackin' and stackin' 'em. Giving up on the coon video this year.
That being said this is the video I got the last couple weeks.

Happy New Year
I was able to get out on the 31st and the 2nd for deer, I did see 3 on Wednesday but they were pretty far. Deer season for me is now over, we had a late doe only season. I tried to get one more but it just wasn't in the cards for me.
So I did what I love to do, I went goose hunting. The sad news is today was the last day of goose season for me. Now I have to wait 2 weeks before I can go out again.
Here's the pic
After I got my limit and started to break down my gear. I walked to the truck to get my sled and my bags, and when I came back out this is what I saw.
This first bunch (top) took off then the rest left out (bottom).
Yep geese dropped into my spread when I walked out to get my stuff....... Man if I was a criminal I could have filled my truck bed today.
Awesome last day

That being said I did get out today at a field that I just got permission to hunt. I have been seeing geese in this field for the last couple days, so I asked last night to hunt it today. They normally don't let people hunt, but I got the OK and thanks to them it was a short day for me. More of the Highlights:
